Blog EntryUrduja: Some pre-movie jittersJun 13, '08 1:04 AM
for everyone
Look, anybody who knows me knows I'd love to see Philippine Cinema get a break.  This goes double for Pinoy Animation.  We have some of the best animators in the world, but they're all doing work for Hollywood coz there aren't any opportunities here.

And now, we have Urduja.

I am honestly excited.  Really, I am.  From the little I've seen, it's looking good.  Still, I will raise three flags...

  1. Animal Sidekicks: Really now.
  2. The fact that Urduja is not as Kayumanggi as I'd like her to be
  3. The fact that this is reminding me of Pocahontas.
I'll still watch this, though.  Looks important.

I've seen the ads. Character design for Urduja is so Pocahontas, complete with blue necklace...

Well, we could always keep an open mind about the movie and keep expectations at a minimum. c",)

can I add that Ceasar Montano used the word "cute" in one of his lines sa trailer. "Cute na katulad ko"

I agree this movie is important. Will it be good? Well...
Still, it's a milestone.

Talking animals are fine as this is still a children's cartoon. Following clichés or not, I find Urduja a crucial step toward a new genre in Philippine movies; deeper plots for future local animation can blossom when a market has been earned. Beerkada should have a cartoon series soon.

I remember, years ago, I watched Ibong Adarna with all the anticipation in the world. I still consider that animation an important step, but I couldn't help but be disappointed with what I watched.

We need Urduja. At this point, it doesn't matter if it sucks or not. All that matters is that it should be lightyears better than IA in terms of technical aspects. Anything less than that will be a blow to Philippine Animation.

I agree with plasticbagman. Urduja feels like a good title for an epic film, pero di mukhang epic ang movie na ito. At sana they added something more in the animation. Animation can do things that even live action can't do. Sayang, kasi parang they didn't push the envelope too far in this movie. Probably tingin pa rin nila sa animation medium ay pambata pa rin. If so, sana hindi na pinalabas ang Simpson's movie dito. Right?
